Citigroup (Citi) has launched a new Korea Desk in Chicago to expand its support for Korean corporate clients operating in North America.

The Chicago desk strengthens Citi’s on-the-ground coverage in the United States and complements its existing Korea Desk in New York, which was established in 1993. Citi also operates Korea desks in London, Prague, Dubai, Singapore, Warsaw, Chennai, Hong Kong, Atlanta and Monterrey.

According to the bank, Korean corporates are increasing their investments across North America in sectors including manufacturing, power, semiconductors and services. As companies expand production and sales operations throughout the US, their activities are becoming more geographically diversified.

Kyoungho Kim, head of the corporate banking group at Citi Korea, said the bank has a long track record of supporting Korean corporates by connecting their headquarters in Korea with overseas subsidiaries through its global Korea Desk network.

He added that the Chicago Korea Desk will enhance Citi’s ability to support clients in the US Midwest, helping them manage funding and financial transactions within the local market.

The move reflects Citi’s strategy to align its international corporate banking platform with the growing global footprint of Korean companies.
