The VinFast VF 3 is driving a growing transition among Indonesian consumers from motorbikes to electric cars, as affordability, ease of use, and improved comfort reshape urban mobility preferences.

Traditionally, moving from motorbikes to cars in Indonesia has been constrained by cost and practicality. However, the VF 3, a compact electric mini-SUV, is gaining traction among first-time car buyers seeking protection from weather conditions and a more comfortable commuting experience in congested cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya.

The vehicle’s compact size—approximately 3 meters in length—combined with light steering and a tight turning radius, makes it suitable for dense urban traffic. Its electric powertrain delivers smooth acceleration and stable performance at typical city and highway speeds, while offering up to 110 Nm of torque.

VinFast has also introduced a battery subscription model in Indonesia, reducing upfront purchase costs by separating battery ownership from the vehicle price. As part of a promotional campaign, customers purchasing before May 31, 2026, receive free battery subscription for two years.

Additionally, the company’s “Trade Gas for Electric” program offers purchase incentives for consumers switching from gasoline-powered vehicles, further lowering the barrier to EV adoption.

Industry observers note that rising fuel price volatility and increasing urbanization are contributing to the shift toward electric mobility. The VF 3’s positioning as a compact, accessible EV is helping expand car ownership among motorbike users while supporting Indonesia’s broader transition toward sustainable transportation.
