HSBC has announced key appointments to bolster its wealth management and private banking operations in China, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to sustainable growth and superior client experience.

Max Xu has been appointed Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB), HSBC China, effective April 1. In this role, Xu will report to Mark Wang, CEO of HSBC China, and functionally to Kai Zhang, Head of IWPB, Asia. Xu joined HSBC in 2025 as Head of Premier Banking, IWPB China, and brings over 20 years of experience across institutional and consumer banking.

Samuel Chen has been named Head of Private Bank, HSBC China, also effective April 1. Chen will report to Xu while working closely with Lok Yim, Regional Head of HSBC Private Bank, Asia Pacific. He brings nearly 20 years of banking experience, including nine years in senior client-facing roles at HSBC Private Bank.
