SIX today announced the appointment of Markus Habbel as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective 1 June. He will also join the company’s Group Executive Board. Habbel succeeds Daniel Schmuckli, who will step down at the end of July, following a previously announced transition.
Habbel brings nearly 30 years of international experience across finance, strategy, and leadership roles. He joins SIX from Bain & Company, where he served as Senior Partner and Global Head of Wealth & Asset Management and Financial Services Market Infrastructure.
Prior to his time at Bain, Habbel spent over eight years at UBS in Zurich, most recently holding the position of Group Managing Director. Earlier in his career, he worked for twelve years at McKinsey & Company in Frankfurt as Partner and Head of Corporate Finance, and also held a role at Morgan Stanley in London.
Commenting on the appointment, SIX CEO Bjørn Sibbern said:
“Markus is an outstanding finance leader with a proven track record of delivering results in complex, global organisations. His extensive expertise in finance, strategy, and transformation will be instrumental in helping us continue to execute on our growth ambitions.”
Habbel’s appointment comes amid ongoing changes to SIX’s Group Executive Board under Sibbern’s leadership, as the company continues to strengthen its strategic and operational capabilities.
