Timpi and MASQ Network have merged their technologies to create an integrated platform combining decentralised search, private browsing, and distributed VPN capabilities.

The combined product will operate under the MASQ brand, while Timpi will continue to provide the underlying independent web index powering the search experience.

As part of the announcement, Timpi has launched its search engine in open beta, making its independently built index publicly accessible for the first time. The service does not require user accounts and is available via web access, browser extensions, and integration within the MASQ Browser.

“Consumers don’t adopt infrastructure — they adopt products,” said Aaron Friedlander, Founder of MASQ Network. “This merger allows us to deliver private browsing, independent search, and secure connectivity in a single experience that everyday users can actually use.”

A fully integrated MASQ Browser with native Timpi Search is expected to launch in the coming months, with broader distribution planned through MASQ’s partner network.

The companies said the platform will generate revenue through search advertising, enterprise data and API services, and subscriptions, without relying on user data monetisation.

“The internet today runs through a handful of chokepoints,” said Gareth Evans, Co-CEO of Timpi. “We’re building infrastructure that sits outside that — decentralised, inspectable, and owned by its community.”

The move reflects increasing momentum in the privacy technology sector, as companies explore alternatives to centralised, data-driven internet models dominated by large technology firms.
